The Premiere Of okay. By As It Is

The five member group, As It Is, is from Brighton, England. As It Is signed to Fearless Records in 2014. Okay. is As It Is’ second full length album released under that label.

There were 5 singles released off of the album: “Pretty Little Distance,” “Okay,” “No Way Out,” “Hey Rachel,” and Until I Return.” As It Is has also been streaming portions of their songs on their Facebook and Instagram.

The 11 song album has a 1950s vibe that displays well in “Pretty Little Distance.” Each song is different from each other and expands the group’s abilities. The song “Hey Rachel” was written for lead singer Patty Walter’s little sister. If you’re feeling the need to take on a slow song on the album, “Still Remembering” is one of their slower songs on okay. “Soap” is opposite as it has a more grungy and angsty feeling on okay. Personally, I enjoyed the more raw and open lyrics that As It Is had on this album. Each song has a diverse sound that’s pleasing to the ear. The song that stood out the most to me on this was “Austen,” and “Soap.” I’m so proud of As It Is for growing tremendously as a group.

Here is the tracklist:

  1. Pretty Little Distance
  2. Okay
  3. Hey Rachel
  4. Patchwork Love
  5. Curtains Close
  6. No Way Out
  7. Soap
  8. Austen
  9. Until I Return
  10. The Coast Is Where Home Is
  11. Still Remembering

I got into As It Is before seeing Mayday Parade on the AP Tour in 2015. Seeing As It Is perform their set live gave me a glimpse of the energy they have as a band. The group is infectious and gets the crowd moving.

As It Is will be touring throughout the year of 2017 around Australia, Japan, Europe, and the United Kingdom. Tickets and tour information can be found on their website. Hopefully they’ll be back in the United States (fingers crossed for Warped Tour!)

In other news, Real Friends will be touring across the United States with Have Mercy, Tiny Moving Parts, Broadside, and Nothing No Where open for them. The tour is from April 27 to June 9. Tickets and tour information can be found here. Also, The Maine’s sold out 8123 Festival in Phoenix, AZ is this weekend, the group also released a new single “Bad Behavior.” We can expect their new album on April 7. The Maine will be touring with that album, and tickets and tour information can be found here.

Rock on, stay humble, and be positive!

17 Albums To Get Excited For In 2017

2017 is rapidly approaching, and they’re many albums to get excited about. Here are my top 17 albums to get excited about in 2017…

  1. The Maine has a new album coming out in the spring or summer of 2017. The Maine had a docu-series on their YouTube page called “Miserable Youth” where fans can watch the band work on the upcoming album. It’s awesome to see a band become interactive with the recording process and let fans see how much work goes into an album. The last album that The Maine released was in 2015 titled American Candy via. 8123, and one of my favorites off of the album is “(Un)lost.”
  2. Zombie On Broadway by Andrew McMahon In The Wildnerness is expected to be released Feb. 17, 2017 via. Vanguard Records. A popular single off that album is “Fire Escape.” Andrew McMahon was the lead singer of Jack’s Mannequin, and I thoroughly enjoyed the music that the group had. I got the chance to see Andrew McMahon In The Wilderness open up for Panic! At The Disco and Weezer in June, and the energy of the performance was high and positive. Check out my review of that show here.
  3. The British trio, The xx, will be releasing a new album on Jan. 13, 2017. I See You is the indie pop group’s fourth album released on the Young Turks label. One of the singles released is “On Hold,” and I’ve been jamming out to this song for a few weeks now. If you haven’t given them a listen yet, I recommend it.
  4. New Found Glory will be releasing a new album in 2017. The band finished recording their ninth record and their drummer, Cyrus Bolooki, shared an Instagram photo of the accomplishment. The band thanked their producer Aaron Sprinkle for his contribution to the album. Their last album released, Resurrection, released in 2014.
  5. Motionless In White is releasing the new album under a different record label from their previous label, Fearless Records. There is no release date, but the upcoming album is anticipated to be their best yet.
  6. Neck Deep is one of those bands where I can listen to their pop-punk jams for hours on end. I’m excited to see that Neck Deep will be releasing a new album in 2017. There is no release date on the album’s debut, but if it’s anything like Life’s Not Out To Get You, the album will be outstanding. With the loss of Ben Barlow’s dad, I bet that there will be one song off that album dedicated to him.
  7. White Noise was PVRIS first album, and we can expect in 2017 a new PVRIS album. PVRIS’ latest album will be released under Rise Records, and the date of the album is TBA. If you haven’t heard any of PVRIS’ songs before, listen to White Noise in its entirety. Usually when I’m listening to an album, there’s one song that I’m not completely fond of, but White Noise does not have that. The album certainly does not disappoint, and  I enjoy every song off the album and the transition from song to song is great.
  8. Broadside will be back in 2017 with a new album. Old Bones is Broadside’s first full length album released via. Victory Records, and one of my favorites off of the album is “Human Machines.” I’m excited to see what Broadside has in store for new music. Oliver Baxxter tweeted that he wrote a ukulele intro for the upcoming album, and the band tweeted that they’re going to be recording in a few days. Check out Broadside if you haven’t already. They’re up and coming!
  9. One of my most anticipated albums that I’ve been waiting for is Paramore’s upcoming album. Both Hayley Williams and Taylor York have worked hard on their latest album. There is no release date on the album, but I’m expecting great things. Paramore is one of my favorite bands, and I’ll always support their music. Fingers crossed!
  10. 30 Seconds To Mars has been teasing their upcoming album Interscope for a few months. One of the first teases was on Aug. 1 via. Twitter. The band has not released when the album will be coming out in 2017, but their last album, Love, Lust, Faith and Dreams was fantastic.”City Of Angels” is one of my favorites off that album.
  11. Sleeping With Sirens will have an album out sometime in 2017. The band is evolving, growing their fanbase, and writing their own music. One of my favorite EP’s from them is If You Were A Movie, This Would Be Your Soundtrack that released in 2012 via. Rise Records. I love that album for the fact each song is stripped down, and Kellin Quinn’s voice is vulnerable.
  12. I The Mighty posted on their Facebook page a photo telling fans that they are working on new music for 2017. There is no word on when the album will be released, but we can expect the album to come out sometime near summer. I feel like I The Mighty will  keep a similar vibe and simplicity of Connector,  but add their own spin.
  13. The Denmark band, New Politics, is expecting to release a new album in the new year. Their latest album, Vikings, allowed New Politics to tour multiple times around the United States. There is no set date to when New Politics will be debuting their album, but I’m looking forward to it. A popular song that New Politics is known for is “Harlem.”
  14. There is not 100% confirmation that Brand New will have a new album out in 2017, but according to Alternative Press, an e-mail was sent out stating there might be a new album for Brand New. Every Brand New listener hopes for a new album from them. Their last album release was in 2015, Leaked Demos 2006. Maybe the band has more in store for us.
  15. okay. is the second full-length album that As It Is will be releasing. The 11 songs on the album will be released on Jan. 20, 2017 via. Fearless Records. Three singles that are released by the group are “Pretty Little Distance,” “Okay,” and “No Way Out.” I wrote a post about As It Is a few weeks ago, and you can read up on it here.
  16. The Front Bottoms has a new album that will come out in 2017. There is no release date on the album, but we can expect it soon. The Front Bottoms have been hesitant with this new record, but the band is getting popular with songs like “Twin Size Mattress” and “Maps.” The group will find their remedy and produce a great album for 2017.
  17. 2017 is the year that The Killers will be releasing a new album as a group. The last album released was in 2012, and I’m excited to see what The Killers have in store for 2017. The band originally stated that the album would come out at the end of 2016, but the release will be in 2017. The most iconic album from The Killers is Hot Fuss in 2004. Lets hope that The Killers new album will have great hits.

Other bands that will be releasing albums are: AFI, Circa Survive, Hey Violet, and more. If you want new music, 2017 has great albums in store for you! Pick up a copy of the latest albums digitally or physically. It’s always important to support music.

In other news, the dates for the 2017 Vans Warped Tour Presented By Journey’s have been released! Be sure to check out which date you’ll be attending. Be sure to let me know which date you’ll be going to what album you’re most excited about at @ovictoriamedia on Twitter. Thank you for all of your support with reading my blog. It’s very humbling to know that people are interested in the things that I write. Wishing you a wonderful 2017, cheers!

As always, rock on, stay humble, and be positive!

Song Review: “No Way Out” by As It Is

Forming in 2012, As It Is is an up and coming pop-punk band from Brighton, England. The band is composed of five members whose names are: Patty Walters, Patrick Foley, Benjamin Langford-Biss, Andy Westhead, and Alistair Testo. The band has been supporting major bands in the scene such as: Mayday Parade, ROAM, Sum 41, Sleeping With Sirens, and more. The band has also played at Warped Tour in 2015.

On Thursday Dec. 1, As Is It released a new song off of their upcoming album okay. The single “No Way Out” is the second released by As It Is. The first single, “Pretty Little Distance” was released on Oct. 13.

“No Way Out” does not have a music video, but shows artwork similar to their album artwork. The lyrics to “No Way Out” is raw and emotional explaining how pain can make you feel like you can’t escape. The song brings up the idea of mental health affecting things that you do. It’s so important for people to realize that mental heath affects so many people and that a smile can truly hide a lot of underlying emotion.

Personally, I’m so excited to hear okay. because Never Happy Ever After was a great album. I love the way that Patty and Ben sing together. Patty has a higher pitch than Ben, but Ben has a refreshing raspy voice. I’ve seen As It Is open up for Mayday Parade in 2015 for the AP Tour, and I got a setlist from Patty Walters. Also, I saw As It Is at the 2015 Vans Warped Tour. As It Is has a lot of energy live, and Patty Walters can kick impressively high. The drumming by Patrick Foley leads the song and keeps th rhythm of the entire song. I enjoyed “Pretty Little Distance” and “No Way Out.” I like the vulnerability “No Way Out” has. Vocally and instrumentally, As It Is is gaining more recognition for their music in the scene. The great thing about As It Is is that they care about the people who support their music. In their Facebook post from yesterday, you can read about how thankful they are for people to listen and appreciate their music.

okay. is As It Is’ second full length album and with Fearless Records. According to a post on their Instagram:

“One of the inner pieces of artwork from the physical version of ‘okay.’ We live in a world where we hide from the problems in ourselves, in our family lives and in the world around us. We gloss over and constantly avoid issues saying that everything is okay. This record is us at our most honest, bringing all the issues that we force behind a smile to the forefront. Album Review: Haven’t Been Myself by Too Close To Touch

Too Close To Touch released their latest album on September 23, Haven’t Been Myself. Too Close To Touch is a rock band from Lexington, Kentucky composed of Keaton Pierce, Mason Marble, Thomas Kidd, Travis Moore, and Kenneth Downey. Their journey to the ears of listeners began in 2012. Too Close To Touch was their first EP released by Epitaph Records in 2014 and Nerve Endings was their first full length album released in March of 2015 by Epitaph Records. Too Close To Touch got exposure playing at Vans Warped Tour in 2016 and won “Best Underground Band” in this year Alternative Press Music Awards. Haven’t Been Myself is Too Close To Touch’s second full length album released via. Epitaph Records.

The singles released prior to the album were “What I Wish I Could Forget,” “Crooked Smile,” and “Sympathy.” This album release was acompanied by the music video for “Sympathy.” The track list is as followed:

  1. Sympathy
  2. Crooked Smile
  3. What I Wish I Could Forget
  4. Translate
  5. Miss Your Face
  6. The Art of Eye Contact
  7. Modern Love Affair
  8. Inside Voices
  9. What A Shame
  10. For Your Sake
  11. Eiley

Pierce lost his three year old sister, and the album is nothing short than emotional pulling at your heart strings. Pierce has an amazing rasp in his voice displaying a sense of urgency, anger and sadness. The songs “Miss Your Face” and “Sympathy” are emotional by the way Pierce creates a raw vocal. Too Close To Touch has such heart-wrenching lyrics that pull at your heart strings in the right way. The album is great, and doesn’t stray away from their previous sound of their prior records. Their prior records were great, but Haven’t Been Myself truly reflect the band’s drive, emotion, and overall composition.

You can pick up a copy of Haven’t Been Myself from your local record store, purchase the album on their website, download it from iTunes or Amazon, and stream from Apple Music and Spotify. You can catch Too Close To Touch opening for Crown The Empire this fall. Ticket information can be found here.

In other news, As It Is made public that they are releasing a new album okay. on January 20, 2017 which can be pre-ordered on iTunes, Mayday Parade announced an anniversary edition of Tales Told By Dead Friends that can be pre-ordered on iTunes, the release of My Chemical Romance’s The Black Parade/ Living With Ghosts (The 10th Anniversary Edition) released today, and The Maine will be playing tonight at Webster Hall in New York City one last time in 2016. At The Disco released the music video for “LA Devotee” and information on a United States tour in 2017 with MisterWives and Saint Motel. Ticket pre-sale is on September 26 at 10AM.
