New Singles From Mayday Parade & This Wild Life

Both Mayday Parade and This Wild Life released singles and music videos for new albums set to release in June. Both groups will be performing on Journey’s Left Foot Stage at this year’s Vans Warped Tour. Tickets and tour information for Vans Warped Tour 2018 can be found here.

Mayday Parade released its first single “Piece Of You Heart” on May 3. This is the first single on the upcoming album Sunnyland which is set to release June 15 via. Rise Records.

The album is the first album Mayday Parade will release under Rise Records. Mayday Parade changed to Rise Records from Fearless Records this year. “Piece Of Your Heart” is one of 13 songs off of the upcoming album. Here is the track list for Sunnyland.

  1. Never Sure
  2. It’s Hard To Be Religious When Certain People Are Never Incinerated By Bolts Of Lightning
  3. Piece Of Your Heart
  4. Is Nowhere
  5. Take My Breath Away
  6. Stay The Same
  7. How Do You Like Me Now
  8. Where Are You
  9. If I Were You
  10. Satellite
  11. Looks Red, Tastes Blue
  12. Always Leaving
  13. Sunnyland

You can pre-order Sunnyland here or pre-save the album on a streaming service.

I’m very excited for this new album. The group hasn’t released music since Black Lines in 2015. If “Piece Of Your Heart” is an indication for the upcoming album, it will be nice that Mayday Parade is branching out the album’s sound. Black Lines had an grungy 90s vibe, and “Piece Of Your Heart” sounds like it could be on Mayday Parade’s self-titled album.

On May 1, This Wild Life released a music video for the release of “Westside.” The new single will be one of 10 songs on Petaluma set to release June 22 via. Epitaph Records.

Here is the track list:

  1. Figure It Out
  2. Headfirst
  3. Catie Rae
  4. Positively Negative
  5. Westside
  6. Hold You Here
  7. Come Back Down
  8. College Kids
  9. Never Believe
  10. No Need For Novocaine

I’m looking forward to hearing the rest of Petaluma since the first two singles resemble This Wild Life’s old sound with acoustics with a nice instrumental of stringed instruments.

This Wild Life released its first single “Hold You Here” in April. Petaluma can be pre-ordered here or pre-saved on streaming services. Kevin Jordan, vocalist of This Wild Life, wrote a statement on his Instagram about the importance of this album.

Our new album Petaluma is coming out June 22nd on Epitaph Records. Head to thiswildlifeband.com now to watch the music video for our new song 'Westside' and to pre-order the album 🌻 Petaluma is the first record we made with a clear vision before the first song was written. In our targets was an album that we could listen to and perform on a daily basis. Something with the dynamics and emotion we’ve always strived for, but within the bounds of a bright, warm, and organic sonic energy flowing through it. We wanted it to rule. Petaluma is the name of a street I lived on for a year after my childhood home was lost to foreclosure. My family was split up for the first time and my world was in disarray between shitty jobs, my failing passion for music, and a relationship that was falling apart. Despite the circumstances, I look back at that time with a fondness and appreciation for having the opportunity to dig myself out from the hole I had gotten myself into. At times I am as fragile as the glass that adorns the album cover, but like the sunflower at the center of its image I will always seek the sun and its light. This record feels like the first hint of summer after wandering through the cold. It feels honest and true to us as artists and individuals. It feels damn good.

Song Review: “Vanilla-Scented Laser Beams”

On April 24, 2018, Illinois natives Homesafe released its first single “Vanilla-Scented Laser Beams.” The song will be featured on the group’s debut full length album One via. Pure Noise Records.

The beginning of the music video gave me a nostalgic 80s/ ‘Stranger Things’ vibe with the fog and color scheme chosen by director Shifty Dimensions. The outfits the group wore during their performance reminded me of The Matrix with the dark attire and glasses worn. It was interesting near the end of the music video you see Homesafe playing for aliens.

The single gave glimpses to a new sound that is more on the rock and alternative side rather than an angsty, pop punk sound. The sound was similar to Such Gold with hints of Seaway. It wasn’t as raw with the rasp of the vocals and instrumentally the song wasn’t as high paced.  I’m looking forward to hearing more songs off of the upcoming album. If this single is an indication for the type of album One is, fans will be noticing a new era for Homesafe.

Here is the tracklist for One:

  1. Point Blank
  2. Run
  3. Say Something
  4. Sadistic Society
  5. Have It All
  6. Vanilla-Scented Laser Beams
  7. Suits and Ties
  8. I Don’t Know How
  9. Time Ain’t Free
  10. Stay Away
  11. Get It Right
  12. Sideways Sleeper
  13. fin

You can pre-order the album here. The album is set to release June 29. Homesafe announced a headline tour across the United States. Accompanying Homesafe will be Hot Mulligan, Heart Attack Man, and Jetty Bones.

In other news, Hawthorne Heights released Bad Frequencies, Bullet For My Valentine announced a tour via. Twitter, CHVRCHES released “Miracle,” and 5 Seconds of Summer released a live video for “Youngblood.”

Rock on, stay humble, and be positive!
