New Music In The Works

There are a lot of releases from bands in 2018 (including in June, July, and additional album releases.) There are bands that are in the works of releasing new music. There is no word on when albums are releasing, but my prediction would be in late 2018 or 2019. Keep an eye out on these bands.

  • Movements tweeted the group is working on new music on the Vans Warped Tour. There is no word on when the group is recording or releasing new music. Movements released its first full length album Feel Something in 2017. Read more about Feel Something here.

  • After Always Lose (2017) The Gospel Youth proceeds to work on new music. The Gospel Youth parted ways with vocalist Samuel Little earlier this year. There is no word on a new vocalist or when “TGY2” will be released, but I’m enjoying this teaser.

  • Pierce The Veil’s vocalist Vic Fuentes posted on Instagram a photo of him in front of a microphone. The photo’s caption gives detail about working on album number 5. There is no word on when a new album will be released.

On the beautifully unpredictable journey to album #5 ✋ #PierceTheVeil

  • A Will Away is following up Here Again with a tweet indicating new music is in the works.

In other news, The Maine’s Can’t Stop, Won’t Stop is officially 10 years old. In honor of the album, The Maine has announced the 8123 Fest is back and happening in January of 2019.

Rock on, stay humble, and be positive!

18 Bands To Check Out In 2018

Every year I give a list of bands that are either up and coming or a band I recently found to check out. It’s been a re-occuring post I write every year. If you are interested in reading about bands I wrote about in 2016 and 2017, click on the year to read more. In this blog, you will get insight on 18 bands along with a song you should check out. Without further ado, let’s get into 18 band you should check out in 2018.

  1. The Gospel Youth (@TheGospelYouth) is a rock band from the UK. If you like a vocalist with similar styling to Patrick Stump and Jason Lancaster, you will absolutely love Samuel Little’s voice in The Gospel Youth. The group released their first full length album Always Lose on July 14, 2017 via. Rise Records.
    Song: “Moods Like English Weather.”
  2. A Will Away (@awillawayct) is a rock band from Naugatuck, CT.  The group released its first full length album Here Again in 2017. I saw A Will Away with This Wild Life in July and loved the vibe the group had. (Read more about my concert experience here.) A Will Away is signed to Triple Crown Records. The thing I like about A Will Away is the fact the group is fairly mellow but has a raw and edgy side with the help of vocalist Matthew Carlson. New music is teased for 2018.
    Song: “Gravity.”
  3. Banners (@BANNERSMUSIC) is Liverpool musician Michael Joseph Nelson. Nelson started Banners in 2015 and since has signed to Island Records.  Banners is a soft rock which reminds me of OneRepublic.
    Song: “Someone To You.”
  4. Homesafe (@homesafeIL) is a side project created by Knuckle Puck’s bassist Ryan Rumchaks. The rock group was formed in 2014 in Oak Lawn, IL. Homesafe’s latest EP Evermore was released in 2016. When I saw Knuckle Puck in November, Homesafe opened for Knuckle Puck. Ryan Rumchaks stated that Homesafe will have music soon. (Read more about my concert review at Knuckle Puck here.)
    Song: “Relapse.”
  5. Speak Low If You Speak Love (@SpeakLowMusic) is an acoustic solo project created by Ryan Scott Graham, the guitarist of State Champs. Graham is the vocalist and guitarist of the project. The thing I enjoy most about Speak Low If You Speak Love is that the songs are beautifully descriptive and have a simplistic and soothing sound. I would compare Speak Low If You Speak Love to Copeland for its instrumentals.
    Song: “Contrasting Colors
  6. Hot Mulligan (@HotMulligan) is an pop punk band from Michigan. Hot Mulligan released EP Opportunities in March of 2017. The group signs to No Sleep Records in May of 2017. If you like pop punk, definitely check out Hot Mulligan.
    Song: “Dary.”
  7. Oh, Weatherly (@Ohweatherly) is __________.
    Song:
  8. Sleep On It (@SleepOnItBand) is a pop punk groups formed in Chicago. The group released the first studio album, Overexposed, on November 3, 2017 via. Equal Vision Records. Sleep On It changed vocalists from John Cass to Zech Pluister in 2016 and since released an EP and their latest LP. Pluister was the vocalist of Bonfires before joining Sleep On It.
    Song: “Distant.”
  9. Milestones (@UKMilestones) is a pop punk band from Manchester, UK. The group released its first full length album this year Red Lights via. Fearless Records. I would compare Milestones’ sound to Mayday Parade, All Time Low, and a bit of Every Avenue.
    Song: “Paranoid.”
  10. WSTR (@wstrband) is pop punk band from Liverpool, UK signed to No Sleep Records. WSTER’s sound is often compared to Neck Deep which makes sense because the guys in Neck Deep grew up in the same town. Vocalist of WSTR Sammy Clifford has spent time writing with Neck Deep’s vocalist Ben Barlow. (Read more on WSTR’s experience with Neck Deep here.) WSTR’s music is produced with the help of Seb Barlow.
    Song: “Eastbound & Down.”
  11. Trash Boat (@TrashBoatUK) is a pop punk band from Herts, UK. The group released two EPs before signing to Hopeless Records in 2014. Trash Boat’s sound is similar to The Story So Far. Trash Boat’s latest studio recording Nothing I Write You Can Change What You’ve Been Through released in 2016. Trash Boat will be on Vans Warped Tour this summer.
    Song: “Strangers.”

12. nothing, nowhere. (@nothingnowhere) is a emo rock project created by Joe Mulherin. The thing I like most about nothing, nowhere is that the songs are instrumentally and electronically driven. All of the music is written, produced, and performed by Mulherin. Nothing, nowhere made the cover of Rock Sound issue 236.1.
Song: “nevermore.”

13. Story Untold (@StoryUntoldCA) is ______.
Song: “California.”

14. Locals Only (@wearelocalsonly) is _______. Locals Only will be at select dates at this year’s Vans Warped Tour.
Song: “You’re Sick.”

16. Cory Wells (@______) _______.
Song: “End Of A Good Thing.”

17. MAKEOUT (@______)
Song: “Ride It Out.”

18. YUNGBLUD (@

My Current Jams

Last week I had a Twitter poll (@ovictoriamedia) asking if you wanted a blog post on songs I’ve been into, and 82% wanted me to post a list of favorite jams. My list of jams vary everyday, but here are some consistent songs that you should check out.

Bottom Of The Deep Blue Sea” by MISSIO. This song has been dominating alternative charts for a reason. There are various layers to this song, and I’m glad that “Bottom Of The Deep Blue Sea” and “Middle Fingers” are two songs that are bringing exposure to the duo. I especially like the meaning behind this song; its hauntingly alluring. In an interview, it was said that the lyrics were representative of the vocalist, Matthew Brue, and his battle with addiction, especially with the chorus of “Welcome to my cage, little lover.” This song is off of MISSIO’s album Loner which came out this year.

Someone To You” by Banners. I heard this song on AltNation on Sirius XM and immediately fell in love. This song is catchy, so upbeat, and the lyrics are delightful. If you have yet to check out Banners, I recommend it! Banners will be touring with Echosmith (and tickets and tour information can be found on my blog post here.)

Drown” by Bring Me The Horizon. Occasionally I put my iPod on shuffle, and I stumbled upon this song. I enjoy the fact this song is high intensity and is deep and beautiful lyrically. This song is off of their album That’s the Spirit that released in 2015.

Revolutions” by The Gospel Youth. This song is a power ballad that shows emotions on full display. Lets not forget to mention that Samuel Little’s vocal range is impressive in this song. Keep The Gospel Youth on your radar of bands to watch out for! Check out their latest album Always Lose for an album that shows obstacles and how to overcome them.

Beautiful Things” by Grayscale has been one of the songs that once I hear, I can’t get out. Grayscale recently released their album Adornment that features this track. Grayscale was signed to Fearless Records around the time the album was released. This song is one of many that you have to check out by Grayscale. Since the release of Adornment, Grayscale has been dominating (and touring with As It Is, Four Year Strong, Cute Is What We Aim For and more.) Trust me, you won’t be disappointed.

Break Me” by This Wild Life. This is their latest single that was released prior to their summer tour with A Will Away and Dry Jacket. I was fortunate enough to hear this song live during their set at Bowery Ballroom. This song pulls at your heart strings and is a great representation of the pop punk duo. For my review of that show and meet and greet, click here.

The Art of Eye Contact” by Too Close To Touch. Too Close To Touch released a music video this week for this song. The track is one of many off of Too Close To Touch’s latest album Haven’t Been Myself which features songs like “Sympathy” and “What I Wish I Could Forget.” I like the way the song opens, and the music video was visually and artistically pleasing.

Other songs that I’ve been into have been: “Hidden Colors” by Broadside, “Don’t Take The Money” by Bleachers, “Cloud 9” by Emarosa, and more. If you’re interested in hearing more songs I’ve been into, check out my radio show here that is two hours of alternative music.

If you want updates on music I’ve been into posted on my blog, tweet me @ovictoriamedia letting me know you’d want another blog post.

What To Pack For Warped Tour Featuring ICYMI

Since I recently attended Vans Warped Tour a few days ago, I thought making a post about things that you can carry and bring with you would be important for anyone who doesn’t know what to bring. Here is a list of things that I packed with me for Warped Tour.

Before Warped Tour, here are the essentials I need to bring with me…

  • Sunscreen
  • Sharpie- You never know who you’re going to meet
  • Bottle of water- Vans Warped Tour allows an attendee to bring in 1 sealed bottle of water
  • Hat
  • Portable Charger
  • Sunglasses
  • Backpack
  • Band Aids

After Warped Tour, including the variety of things I brought with me, I bought a few extra things and received free things as well. Here is the list of other things I received that day.

Here is a picture of some of the things I had with me at the end of Warped Tour.

I had a great time at this year’s Vans Warped Tour. When the lineup was announced in March, I was hoping for a few more bands I knew that were performing. From March until Warped Tour in July, I learned a lot about bands and had a great time. For more information about what happened during Warped Tour, check out my previous blog post and my Instagram @ovictoriamedia.
